TAIWAN-Yilan County Wu-shi-lan Philharmonic Choir

Yilan County Wu-shi-lan Philharmonic Choir was established in 2012.

The choir was previously named Wu-shi-lan Choir before 2015.

The choir has actively participated in many contests and performances and has acquired good results.

Mr. Tuan Hoe Koh is the current director and conductor. Since taking over the position at the choir, Mr. Koh has not only continued leading the choir for competitions and performances, but also expanded the members’ territory of activities.

The choir ascended onto the arena of National Theater and Concert Hall in 2018, which was the first time a Yilan choir ever given performance in the National Theater and Concert Hall. In 2019 the choir was invited to perform by The ALTA PUSTERIA International Choral FESTIVAL in Italy and was honored to sing in the opening concert.

In 2020 the choir produced an event, Taiping Poetry Journey--The Night of Taiwan Choir Creation, composing five of Mr. Li-tong’s poems of Taiping Poetry Journey into choir music, which has become the genuine Yilan melody conveying their adoration towards their home county.

After the first performance in Yilan Performing Arts Hall, the choir went further to perform at Kaoshuing Weiwuying National Art and Culture Center.

In 2022 the choir produced The Sail Shadows at Wu-shi Fishing Port—A Ballad and Innovation Concert, mainly based upon the local literary writer, Mr. Rong-chun Lee’s works.

The choir created several chorus pieces intertwining Lee’s works with the local prominent poets’ works, narrating the stories of the old town of Toucheng. The choir hopes to inspire some stunning sparkles by praising the beauty of Yilan through the poems and the young music writers’ pieces bred locally.
