Poland Maria Pomianowska Band

  Maria Pomianowska’s band using for playing reconstructed forgotten Polish knee position fiddles, accordion and drums. This is the first in the World band using such instruments in different sizes.

  Maria Pomianowska, leader of the band, as a first person 20 years ago reconstructed technique of playing 3 forgotten Polish instruments: Bilgoraysuka, Plock fiddle and Mielecsuka. The basic instrument of the Polish folk music is a violin. Since modern violin is a relatively new element in the folk music, Maria Pomianowskadecided to revive the distinct past time tradition, namely instruments played using a so-called fingernail technique, including a 16thC. Plock fiddle, Bilgoraysuka and Mielecsuka which survived until the end of the 19thC. The 6-string fiddlefrom Plock was excavated in 1985. The 4-string sukashave been reconstructed on the base of iconographic sources, since no specimen of the instruments had survived until the modern days.
